Biodegradable Matrices Optimized for Anchorage Dependent Cell Culture


Cellon MatrixKit range from Synthecon feature biodegradable Chitosan matrices which have been optimized for the 3D culture of specific cell or tissue types. Four MatrixKits are currently available which include Chitosan matrices specifically developed for the culture of Chondrocytes, Hepatocytes, Neuronal and Fibroblast cells. Additional kits for other cell types are under development. MatrixKits may be used with cell lines or primary cells. The excellent physical and biological properties of Chitosan matrices make them an ideal substrate for tissue engineering research applications.

The Chitosan scaffolds included in the kit are sized to fit in a standard 6 well plate and facilitate scaffold handling without damage to the scaffold or unintentional removal of cells Note: customfelts, foils or engineered structures can also be supplied.


Studies have shown that cell populations can be increased by over 104 within three weeks and cultures can be maintained for extended time periods. During culture, cell phenotype is maintained along with high cell viability. Animal implantation studies have shown that the matrix is stable for up to 3 months.

MatrixKits are intended for research purposes only, not for clinical, diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
