Synthecon, Inc has introduced the Rotary Cell Culture SystemTM for Stem Cell culture. This 3-D cell culture bioreactor is capable of expanding/differentiating Embryonic Stem Cells, Cord Blood Stem Cells and Bone marrow Stem Cells. It is useful for a wide range of applications including bone tissue engineering, neural stem cell differentiation, engineering cardiac and cartilage tissue, production of embryoid bodies etc. The bioreactor consists of a horizontally rotated culture vessel oxygenated by a flat silicone rubber gas transfer membrane (High Aspect Ratio Vessel) or a co-axial oxygenator in the center (Slow Turning Lateral Vessel). Cells placed in the bioreactor experience minimal mechanical stresses and high mass transport of nutrients and oxygen. Small volume culture vessels (1-10ml) manufactured especially for the stem cell bioreactor provide an ideal environment for the concentration of stem cells and stem cell growth factors in culture.
